Thunderbirds too much for LSU-Eunice

Levelland, TEXAS (November 7, 2015)

 

The New Mexico Junior College Women's Basketball team heated up the Texan Dome on Saturday as they shot a blistering 64% from the field and reached the century mark as they downed the Bengals 101-61 to conclude the South Plains Classic.

Shaniya Mitchell picked up her first double-double of her career as she scored 15 points and snagged 11 rebounds.  She led four Thunderbirds in double digit scoring as Ekatarina Zhibareva and Alexis Winters both scored career highs with 13 points and 11 points respectively while Blair Richmond continued her hot shooting from the field as she finished with 10 points while only missing one shot from the field.

The Thunderbirds were equally dominate defensively as they forced 19 turnovers and outscored the Bengals 26-5 on turnovers. They dominated the glass out rebounding them 45-28.  Natalia Gwarda and Daiane Machado collected seven and six rebounds respectively.

The road trip continues for the Thunderbirds as they head to Yuma, Arizona on Wednesday to play three games in the Desert Classic. They face Arizona Western on Thursday.
