Thunderbirds secure 5th consecutive WJCAC crown; defeat Midland

Midland, TEXAS

Winning on the road in the WJCAC is tough. Winning on the road, at Midland, to secure your 5th consecutive conference crown, is even tougher but the New Mexico Junior College Women's Basketball did just that defeating the Chaps on their home court 59-44.

Daiane Machado and Nycolle Smith shouldered the load for the Thunderbirds as they both scored 10 points and grabbed six boards. Smith added a game high four assists as well.

The Thunderbirds were tremendous on defense as they held the Chaps to 10% shooting from three-point range going 2-for-19 and 17-for-51 for the game.  The Thunderbirds stepped up and dominated the Chaps grabbing 10 more rebounds (41-51) and forcing 21 turnovers.

The Thunderbirds standout sophomore guard Alana da Silva exited the game late in the 3rd quarter with an undisclosed injury and did not return.

On Monday, NMJC (25-2, 12-0) will travel to Borger, Texas to play Frank Phillips (12-13, 3-9). Game will tip at 4:45 P.M MST.
