NMJC WBB Team Finishes Iowa Western Thanksgiving Classic 2-0

The T-Birds were in Council Bluffs, Iowa over Thanksgiving break to compete in the Iowa Western Thanksgiving Classic. The team finished the tournament 2-0. 

On Friday, the T-Birds played Iowa Western Community College for their first game of the tournament. Starters for the T-Birds were Delma Zita, Madina Camara, Precious Cowan, Bianca Juzzo, and Danna Grenald. The team scored double digits in the first, third, and fourth quarter ending the game with 74 points, beating Iowa Western 74-53.

Top scorer for the T-Birds was sophomore Delma Zita with 19 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Following Zita was sophomore Precious Cowan with 16 points, 2 steals, and 6 assists. 

On Saturday, the T-Birds played thier last game of the Thanksgiving Classic against the Mineral Area College Cardinals. The Cardinals had a lead on the T-Birds 20-17 at the end of the first quarter. The T-Birds came back with a strong second quarter scoring 14 points while the Cardinals scored 4. The lead continued for the T-birds in the third and fourth quarter ending in a win with a final score of 71-55.  

Lead scorer for the T-Birds was Precious Cowan with 24 points, 5 steals, and 4 rebounds. Following Cowan in points was freshman Danna Grenald who put up 14 points along with 14 rebounds. 

The T-Birds will play one more game on the road on Wednesday, December 1st against Odessa College at the OC Sports Center. Their next home games will be Thursday, December 16th against Ranger College and Saturday, December 18th against Cochise College in Hobbs, NM at Caster Activity Center.
