NMJC Wins At Home Against Clarendon

NMJC T-Birds played another home game against the Clarendon College Bulldogs Monday night in Caster Activity Center. The T-Birds beat the bulldogs by 4.
The T-Birds scored 16 points in both the first and second quarter to go into halftime ahead of the Bulldogs by 10, 32-22. The T-Birds made 5 points off of turnovers from the Bulldogs and 8 second-chance points. The Bulldogs were out scored the entire first half by the T-Birds as they put up only 9 points in the first quarter and 13 in the second.
Sophomore Cabria Lewis put up 10 points in the first half, 2 of those being 3-pointers, one made at the buzzer going into half extending the T-Bird lead. Lewis is followed by Danna Grenald as another lead scorer for the T-Birds in the first half with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
It became a close game for the T-Birds in the second half as the Bulldogs began to shorten the lead. The Bulldogs scored 21 points against the T-Birds 22 points in the third quarter, making the score 54-43 going into the final quarter. The T-Birds were out scored by Clarendon in the fourth quarter 19-12, making it only a 2 point game with less than a minute remaining on the clock. Danna Grenald sank in three free throws to win the game 66-62. The T-Birds are now 5-2 in conference play.
Top scorer for the T-Birds was Danna Grenald with 18 points and 19 rebounds. Following Grenald with 10 points each is Precious Cowan and Cabria Lewis.
The T-Birds will play another home game on Thursday night in Caster against Odessa College at 5:45 MST.
