T-Birds Beat South Plains at Home

The T-Birds faced the South Plains Texans Thursday night in Caster Activity Center. The T-Birds beat the Texans by 6.
After losing to the Texans by 10 in January, the T-Birds came out ready for revenge. After 9 points made by the T-Birds the Texans were able to put themselves on the board with a jump shot almost 7 minutes into the game. The T-Birds continued to lead the Texans throughout the first half, leading by 16 points halfway into the second quarter. The Texans went into halftime trailing the T-Birds by 17, 12-29, after a free throw made by Danna Grenald.
Top scorer for theT-Birds in the first half was freshman Danna Grenald with 7 points. Following Grenald was sophomores Delma Zita and Cabria Lewis with 6 points each.
Things started to pick-up in the second half. The Texans shortened the lead with a few 3-pointers and some layups to put them behind by only 10 points halfway into the third quarter. Martyna Czescik made a jump shot for the Texans with 2 minutes left in the third putting the score at 33-38. That was the closest the Texans could get to the T-Birds. The T-Birds maintained their lead in the final quarter. Cabria Lewis contributed with 2 layups and a jump shot along with sophomore Jada Miller who sunk a 3-pointer to end the game. The T-Birds finsihed ahead of the Texand by 6 with a final score of 52-46. The T-Birds are now 9-2 in WJCAC conference play.
Lead scorer for the T-Birds overall was Cabria Lewis with 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal. Following Lewis in points was Delma Zita with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Danna Grenald finished the game with 7 points and 6 rebounds.
The T-Birds will be off on Monday to prepare for their next match up against Howard at home on Thursday, February 17th.
