No. 5 NMJC women's basketball defeated the McCook Community College Indians 78-47 for the second straight game. The teams previously played Nov. 18 in Hobbs where the T-Birds won 58-47.
NMJC came out stronger in the rematch versus the Indians on Friday. The T-Birds took a substantial 51-25 lead headed into the break. Sophomore forward Danna Grenald was the leading scorer for the T-Birds with 18 points and 6 rebounds on 8-of-10 shooting from the field.
Forward Sandra Magolico chipped in 14 points and guard Filipa Calisto added 11 points off the bench.
The Thunderbirds shot 32-for-66 (48.5%) from the field and were 3-of-10 (30%) from the three-point line. The T-Birds forced 20 turnovers and went 11-of-15 (73.3) from the line in the win over the Indians.
The T-Birds move to 6-0 on the year. NMJC will play Western Nebraska Saturday, Nov. 26 at 1 p.m. CDT in McCook, NE.
