Odessa Hands T-Birds Second Conference Loss

Sandra Magolico finished with 11 points as the Thunderbirds suffered their second conference loss of the season to the Odessa College Wranglers 57-47.

NMJC finished the first quarter trailing 11-9. The second quarter was much of the same with the T-Birds trailing by four points, 24-20 entering the half.

The Thunderbirds clawed their way back into the game in the third quarter tying the score at 30 apiece with 5:00 minutes to go after a Madina Camara layup. The Wranglers went on a 9-2 scoring run to take back the lead 39-32 at the end of the third. 

Forward Bianca Juzzo hit a jumper with 5:00 minutes to go in the game to bring the T-Birds within five points, 45-40. Odessa then outscored NMJC 12-7 in the final 5:00 minutes of play to win 57-47.

Forward Danna Grenald finished with eight points, 10 rebounds, and three steals in the Thursday night loss. Guard Madina Camara scored eight points and added four assists.

Sophomore Delma Zita finished the night with six points and five steals. 

The T-Birds shot 20-of-55 (36.4%) from the field, 2-for-9 (22.2%) from the three-point line, were 5-for-13 (38.5%) from the free throw line, and forced 24 turnovers in the 10-point loss.

The Thunderbirds drop to 17-4 on the year and 6-2 in conference. NMJC will play Midland College Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5:45 p.m. CDT in Midland, Texas.
