NMJC snaps Odessa's Win Streak

The NMJC women's basketball team snapped Odessa College's 15-game winning streak with a 93-76 win over the Wranglers on Monday night.

The T-Birds held onto a four-point lead 37-33 going into the half after Odessa's Tia Shelling hit a 3-pointer with no time remaining.

NMJC outscored Odessa in the third quarter 27-15 to extend the Thunderbirds lead to 16 at the end of the period. NMJC cruised in the fourth, ultimately winning 93-76.

Sophomore guard Aaliyah Holmes hit six 3-pointers to finish the night with 24 points. Freshman forward Pania Davis recorded her seventh double-double of the season posting a career-high 19 rebounds, 17 points, and six blocks.

Cacia Antonio finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. The freshman guard notched her second double-double of the year in the 17-point win.

Freshman guard Wisdom Anthony registered 13 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Sophomore guard Filipa Calisto finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and four steals.

The Thunderbirds shot 37-of-80 (46.3%) from the field, 7-of-16 (43.8%) from the 3-point line, 12-of-23 (52.2%) from the charity stripe, and forced 21 turnovers.

No. 9 NMJC improves to 14-4 (3-0) on the year and will play Howard College in Big Spring, TX Thursday, Jan. 18 at 5:45 p.m. CST.
