Davis Earns 11th Double-Double in Win Over South Plains

Amyah Sutton exploded for 15 points off the bench in just 20 minutes of play. The freshman forward was 4-for-6 from the field, 7-of-10 from the line, and the only Thunderbird off the bench to score a point.

The T-Birds had a slow start to the game. NMJC scored only eight points in the first quarter and trailed by three, 11-8. The Texans had a 6-0 run to begin the second quarter that extended their lead to what would be the largest of the game, 17-8 at the 7:49 mark.

South Plains cut into the lead with a 7-2 run at the start of the quarter to make the score 44-42 in favor of NMJC with 7:10 remaining in the fourth. The two-point deficit proved to be the closest the Texans would get the rest of the game. NMJC went on to outscore South Plains 16-6 the rest of the way in the 60-48 win.

Cacia Antonio dropped 14 points and six rebounds. Filipa Calisto finished with seven points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Wisdom Anthony tallied eight points.

The Thunderbirds shot 21-for-56 (37.5%) from the field, 0-of-5 (0%) from beyond the arc, and 18-of-25 (72%) from the free throw line. NMJC held the Texans to 31.7% from the field.

No. 5 NMJC improves to 19-4 (8-0) on the year and will face Western Texas College in Hobbs, NM Monday, Feb. 12 at 5:45 p.m. MST. The T-Birds are one game ahead of Odessa in the WJCAC standings.
