T-Bird (WBB) Uses 21-0 Run to Defeat Cedar Valley

The Thunderbirds defeated Dallas College Cedar Valley Friday night 88-37.

The Suns opened the game with a three-pointer to start with a 3-point advantage. The T-Birds responded with a 21-0 run to grab an 18-point lead with 1:24 to go in the first quarter. The Thunderbirds ended the first quarter with a 23-5 lead. The T-Birds extended their lead at the break to 23 points, 44-21.

The highlight of the second half was the Danielle Smith's four-point play at the 8:17 mark of the fourth quarter. Smith hit a three-pointer and was knocked out of bounds and into the bench by Cedar Valley's Jamya Brown. Smith converted the free throw to complete the four-point play. The sophomore guard finished with seven points on the night in the 51-point win. 

The Thunderbirds finished with four players in double figures on Friday.

Sophomore Cacia Antonio recorded 11 points, five assists, and five rebounds in the win over the Suns. Forward Amyah Sutton went 2-for-2 from three-point land to finish with 11 points and five rebounds. Pania Davis finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks. Davis has recorded three double-doubles this year.

Jada Graves registered a career high in points with 15 and rebounds with seven in the win over Cedar Valley. The freshman guard also dished out five assists. Forward Emma Najjuma finished with career highs in rebounds and blocks with 11 boards and six rejections. 

The T-Birds shot 29-for-71 (40.8%) from the field, 8-for-23 (34.8%) from the 3-point line, and 22-of-24 (91.7%) from the charity stripe. The Thunderbirds forced 20 turnovers and held the Suns to 20.3% from the field and 26.7% from 3-point territory.

The No. 3 Thunderbirds improve to 5-0 on the season and will face Garden City CC at 4 p.m. MST on Saturday, Nov. 16.
