Estrade Stays Hot with 23 Against Cisco

The No. 3 T-Birds came back from break on Monday, Dec. 2 and throttled the Cisco College Wranglers 88-57. 

The Thunderbirds started fast and furious with a 24-2 run in the first 7:30 of the game. The Wranglers tried to close the gap with a 7-0 run to bring the score to 24-9 after the first period.

The second quarter was more competitive from Cisco as they put up 15 points in the period, while the T-Birds managed to edge the Wranglers with 18 points to extend their lead to 18 points, 42-24 at the half. 

Cisco chipped away in the third quarter and cut the lead to 15 points at the end of the quarter to make the score 61-46. NMJC took control of the Wranglers in the fourth quarter shooting 66.7% from the field to outscore Cisco by 16 and win by 31 points, 88-57. 

Sophomore guard Cacia Antonio recorded 11 points, six assists, and five rebounds.

Guard Nuria Estrade finished with 23 points going 76.9% from the field. This is the second straight game the sophomore has scored 20 plus points.

Forward Amyah Sutton recorded 12 points after going 4-for-4 from the field. Sophomore forward Pania Davis posted eight points, eight rebounds, and four assists in the 31-point win. 

Guard Kaycee Steinke went 3-of-4 from the 3-point line finishing with a career-high 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists.

The T-Birds shot 37-for-66 (56.1%) from the field, 9-for-23 (39.1%) from the 3-point line, and 5-of-7 (71.4%) from the charity stripe. The Thunderbirds held the Wranglers to 39.2% from the field.

The No. 3 Thunderbirds improve to 11-0 and will rest a week before being back in action against Wayland Baptist (JV) Monday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. MST.
