T-Bird W-Golf Wins 3rd Tournament this Season

Freshman Nanami Hayakawa (+6) finished runner-up for the second time this season as the NMJC women's golf team (+43) won their third tournament of the season at the par-71 Ranchland Hills GC.

The Thunderbirds won by 76 shots over Ranger College at the Tanklogix & Tall City Exploration Collegiate in Midland, Texas. NMJC shot 611 as a team over the course of 36 holes to triumph over the three team field.  

Hayakawa's 6-over second-place finish consisted of back-to-back 74's to shoot a 36-hole total of 148. The freshman has placed outside of the top 10 only once this season. Margret Nyamukondiwa of Western Texas won the tournament at 4-over (75-71). 

Olivia Heard finished in third place on Wednesday at 9-over. The Englishwoman shot 81 in the first round but bounced back in Round 2 with a 1-under 70 for a two-day total of 151. Heard has recorded six top-10 finishes in a row. 

Wawa Booncharn's form has started to come together with back-to-back top-10 performances. Booncharn placed fifth in Midland with rounds of 74-82 to shoot a 14-over two-round total of 156.

Hinano Kishida finished in a tie for seventh place at 18-over par. Kishida went 81-79 to shoot a 160 over the course of 36 holes. The finish was the Nagano, Japan native's ninth top 10 of her career. 

Ashleigh Johnson struggled in the opening round with a 92. She bounced back in Round 2 to shoot 78 and finish in 14th place at 28-over. 

The T-Birds had two individuals in Midland this week. Kyleigh McGowen was the top performer at 24-over. McGowen's performance was just outside the top 10, sitting in 12th place. The Andrews, Texas native posted a two-day total of 166 (88-78).  

Talyssa Griner was the second indy in the competition for NMJC and finished in 16th place at 34-over. Griner posted rounds of 89-87 to shoot a 36-hole total of 176.  

The T-Birds compete next in the USW Spring Invitational at Rockwind Community Links in Hobbs, NM April 2-3.
