Thunderbird (W-Golf) Finishes Runner-up in Pueblo

The T-Bird women's golf team finished runner-up at the Southern Colorado Open on Monday, March 24.

NMJC shot 25-over for the tournament and was just five shots back of the tournament champion Simon Fraser who shot 20-over. NMJC did have the first round lead over Fraser by four shots after shooting a 6-over 294 which was the low round of the tournament.

Nanami Hayakawa shot 75-73 in 36 holes to finish the tournament at 4-over par. The sophomore finished in a tie for fourth place. The placement is her eighth top 10 of the season and sixth top 5.

Sophomore Hinano Kishida tied her teammate Hayakawa after back-to-back rounds of 74. Kishida finished in a tie for fourth earning her sixth top 10 of the season.

Wawa Booncharn finished her tournament at 9-over after shooting 76-77 at Walking Stick GC. The Bangkok, Thailand native placed T-14 and has finished in the top 15 in all nine tournaments this season.

Olivia Heard had a fantastic first round in Pueblo, Colo., where she shot a 2-under 70 after making five birdies and an eagle to sit in a tie for second after one round. The 70 also ties her career-low round. The second round was a struggle for the Englishwoman. She carded seven bogeys and two doubles to shoot an 11-over 83. Heard finished at 9-over in a tie for 14th place.

Giuliana Frutos tied her career-low round with a 3-over 75 in the first round. The freshman couldn't recreate the magic in Round 2 shooting 84 to finish T-37 at 15-over. Stefany Crozier was the lone individual for NMJC this week in Colorado. The freshman went 79-78 in 36 holes to finish T-32 at 13-over for the tournament.

The Thunderbirds next tournament is the USW Spring Invitational April 7-8 in Hobbs, NM at Rockwind Community Links.
