Taylor Breaks School Record, Lindsay Leaps to NJCAA No. 1 in Lubbock

The New Mexico Junior College women's track and field team competed in the Corky Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock, Texas on Saturday, April 29.

The T-Bird women set three school records and improved on seven national qualifying standards Saturday afternoon.

Calisha Taylor broke her own school record in the 400mH with her improved qualifying time of 57.84. The Baylor signee is ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA for the event. 

Aaliyah Lindsay springboarded to No. 1 in the NJCAA for the triple jump with her 12.62m leap. The jump is .28m longer than her nearest competition. Letlhogonolo Magoro ran a personal-best in the 800m as she crossed the line in 2:09.16. The finish was enough to earn her the No. 1 spot in the NJCAA and gives her a .83 second cushion on second place.

Damaris Chewon finished the 5000m in 17:47.67 to improve on her previous national standard. The sophomore moved herself into the No. 3 slot in the NJCAA standings. Mickaliliah Vassell broke the one minute barrier for the first time this season with her 400mH time. The sophomore finished the race in 59.96 to move to No. 4 in the NJCAA for the season.

Ashantai Bollers improved on her previous national qualifying time in the 100m with an 11.51. The time is ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA. 

Lacarthea Cooper improved on her national standard in the 400m with a time of 54.31. Cooper's run is No. 5 in the NJCAA and is three spots behind her teammate Deshana Skeete, who ran a 52.87 at the Texas Tech Masked Rider.

The Thunderbird women remain at No. 1 in Week 6's USTFCCCA NJCAA Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index.

The T-Birds next meet will be at the 2023 NJCAA Outdoor National Championships here in Hobbs, NM May 18-20.
