NMJC T&F Assistant Gino Hall Heads to ASU

New Mexico Junior College track & field assistant Arman Gino Hall has accepted a job with the Arizona State Sun Devils. Hall specialized as the sprints/hurdles coach for the T-Birds and will work as the sprints coach at ASU.

"It's definitely a dream come true especially since I wasn't expecting it to happen so fast," Hall said. "I'm super excited to try and do the same thing I did at NMJC which is to run fast, compete hard, and win championships. I know it'll be tough but that's the fun part."

Hall was an integral part of the coaching staff that guided the Thunderbirds to wins in the men's and women's outdoor and indoor national championships during the 2023 season.

The Thunderbird men captured their first indoor track & field title since 1980 in March of this year. There Hall's athletes won three individual indoor national titles (Tapiwanashe (Carlie) Makarawu- 60m, Takudzwa (Donald) Chiyangwa- 400m, and Tapiwanashe (Carlie) Makarawu- 200m), earned seven individual All-American finishes, and one relay All-American finish.

The women in 2023 captured their first indoor title since 2020. Hall's athletes won two individual national titles (Calisha Taylor- 600m and Ashantai Bollers- 200m), one relay national title (Vassell, Simpson, Taylor, and Skeete- 4x400m), earned 10 individual All-Americans finishes, and one relay All-American finish.

Hall was named the 2023 NJCAA Women's Indoor T&F National Assistant of the Year and West Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year for his effort during the indoor season.

The Thunderbirds picked up right where they left off when the spring outdoor season arrived.

The T-Birds 4x400m relay team showed out at the Texas Relays in late March. The men won their heat with a blazing 3:02.68 run. The time set a school record and would have scored seventh at the NCAA outdoor national meet held in June.

The T-Birds hosted the 2023 Outdoor National Championships in Hobbs, NM May 18-20.

The T-Bird men won their second straight title and first outdoor title since 1979. Hall coached one individual national champion (Tapiwanashe (Carlie) Makarawu- 100m), five individual All-Americans, and one relay All-American team at the meet.

On the women's side, Hall coached two individual national champions (Calisha Taylor- 400mH and Deshana Skeete- 400m), nine individual All-Americans, and two relay All-American squads. The Thunderbirds would go on to win their third outdoor team title and first outdoor title since 2019.

Hall coached eight individual national champions, one relay national champion, 31 individual All-Americans, and five relay All-American squads in his lone season with the program.

The Thunderbirds won all four NJCAA national championships in 2023 for track & field for the first time in program history.

Although it's bittersweet to see Coach Hall depart, he leaves knowing that this opportunity shaped him for his next challenge at Arizona State.

"This past year was an amazing experience that I will never forget," Hall said. "Coach Blackwill taught me a lot of things and the student-athletes always kept me on my toes. I will miss those amazing men and women and the coaching staff at NMJC."
