
NMJC (W-T&F) Ends Regular Season at Corky Crofoot Shootout
The NMJC women's track & field team competed at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout May 1-2 in Lubbock, Texas.
The T-Birds finished the meet with four improved qualifiers and four new national qualifiers.
NMJC was led on the field side by Bruna Vieira de Jesus who improved on her qualifying mark by .03m with a throw of 47.40m in the javelin. The throw is ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA for the event.
Athilia Pryce made a major improvement in the discus throwing 47.80m to better her previous national standard by 2.62m. The mark is ranked No. 5 in JUCO.
Sophomore Nandy Kihuyu ran a 23.73 in the 200m to nationally qualify in the race for outdoor. The finish comes in at No. 14 in the NJCAA. Tuwana McLean also met the national standard in the 200m with a 24.03 finish (NJCAA No. 24).
Distance runner Lisel Ndlovu exceeded the national standard in the steeplechase running an 11:49.64 (NJCAA No. 16). Freshman Ines Mrabet competed in the 1500m this week nationally qualifying with a 4:42.50. The time is No. 17 in the NJCAA.
A pair of 800m runners were improved qualifiers in Lubbock. Tyfane Martins ran a 2:15.64 to rank No. 19 in the NJCAA. Francesca Alvarado was just behind Martins finishing with a time of 2:15.91.
NMJC sits No. 1 in the NJCAA for the outdoor season according to the Checkpoint 6 rankings released by the USTFCCCA.
The Thunderbirds final meet of the season is the 2025 NJCAA Women's Outdoor T&F Championships in Hutchinson, Kansas May 15-17.
