NMJC Stumbles in Region V West Championship to NMMI
The T-Birds fell in three sets to NMMI Saturday night in the Region V West Championship (19-25, 15-25, 21-25).
This was the first loss for the Thunderbirds since NMJC was defeated in four sets by Odessa College on Sept. 21.
Freshman outside hitter Iva Popovic finished with 10 kills and 14 digs. Popovic was able to register her 19th double-double of the season in the three-set loss.
Sophomore libero Milena Cernjanski recorded 15 digs in the contest. Sophomore outside hitter Maggie Machado added four kills and 13 digs Saturday evening.
Freshman outside hitter Gaby Arias finished the match with eight kills. Sophomore middle blocker Karielys Maldonado chipped in six kills.
Sophomore setter Lacie Schooley recorded her 20th double-double of the season with 25 assists and 14 digs.
The Thunderbirds will learn Wednesday, Nov. 9 if they are selected as an at-large bid to the NJCAA DI Volleyball National Tournament in West Plains, Missouri.
