The No. 15 New Mexico Junior College volleyball team upended Wharton County Junior College in three sets (25-10, 25-15, 25-12).
NMJC easily took care of the Pioneers in the final match of the Midland College Kick-off Classic. The T-Birds were led by right side Polianna Hernandez who registered a career-high 13 kills.
Outside hitter Iva Popovic chipped in with 12 kills and eight digs. Libero Addison Carillo finished with 16 digs during the three-set win.
Outside hitter Gaby Arias continued her impressive start to the season recording 10 kills and nine digs in the win. Setter Sude Omerickoglu finished with 18 assists. Taina de Lima Nunes also subbed in to set for the T-Birds and finished with 12 assists.
The T-Birds begin the season 4-0. NMJC will play next at the Odessa College Invitational against Navarro College Saturday, Aug. 25 at 12 p.m. CDT in Odessa, Texas.
