Thunderbirds Fall to Navarro in Straight Sets

The No. 15 ranked T-Birds lost their first match of the year in three sets to No. 20 Navarro College Friday morning at the Odessa College Invitational (25-20, 28-26, 25-21).

NMJC dropped set one 25-20. The T-Birds came out strong in the second set and even had two set points, however they could not convert on the opportunity and fell 28-26. The third set went the way of the Bulldogs 25-21, handing the T-Birds their first loss of the year.

Outside hitter Gaby Arias recorded eight kills and eight digs in the three-set loss. 

Taina de Lima Nunes and Sude Omerickoglu split the setting duties on Friday with de Lima Nunes finishing with 11 assists and Omerickoglu tallying 13 assists. 

Outside hitter Iva Popovic registered six kills and seven digs. Libero Addison Carillo finished with six digs.

The T-Birds sit at 4-1 following the loss to the Bulldogs. NMJC will play their second match of the Odessa College Invitational at 6 p.m. CDT against Temple College.
