
T-Bird (VB) Upends Clarendon, Improves to 2-0 in WJCAC
NMJC women's volleyball earned their second WJCAC win of the season Saturday afternoon with a four-set win over Clarendon College.
The Thunderbirds faltered in the first set, falling 25-23 to Clarendon. The Bulldogs win in Set 1 was the first set Clarendon has grabbed over NMJC since Sept. 23, 2021. The T-Birds quickly flipped the script the rest of the match winning the second set 25-20, the third set 25-16, and the fourth set 25-20.
Ava Kincaid had a career-high 13 kills in the match. Kincaid also chipped in 10 digs for her first career double-double. Outside hitter Iza Caroline da Silva finished with 12 kills, five digs, and three blocks. Freshman Zaira Romero ended the match with nine kills and three blocks.
Outside hitters Milka Krajisnik and Andjela Sojic each recorded seven kills. Libero Izabella Rabelo finished with 18 digs. Setter Sude Omerickoglu registered 25 assists and Taina de Lima Nunes added 20 assists in the four-set win.
The No. 13 Thunderbirds improve to 12-6 (2-0) on the year and will face No. 3 NMMI in Hobbs, NM on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. MDT. The match versus New Mexico Military Institute is the first home match of the season and will be streamed on YouTube.
