Bio
Victoria Spragg is entering her first year as the assistant volleyball coach for the Thunderbirds.
"I am excited to have Coach Spragg join the T-Bird program," NMJC volleyball head coach Holli Reyna said. "She brings a wealth of volleyball knowledge and understands what it means to train and compete at a high level. She is no doubt an excellent addition and I look forward to seeing what she brings to the table."
Spragg arrives in Hobbs, NM after spending three seasons (2021-23) as the head volleyball coach of Belen High School.
"I can't wait to be a part of the Thunderbird community," Spragg said. "I am so excited to start my college coaching career with such a high performing and well-rounded program. Thank you NMJC and Coach Reyna for allowing me this opportunity. August can't come fast enough."
Spragg's Belen High School teams improved dramatically following her arrival. The Eagles did not win a match in the season prior to her hire. Belen won two matches in Year 1 under Spragg. However, in Year 2 she won seven more matches to finish with nine wins on the year. The 2022 season was the most wins at Belen since 2014-15 where the Eagles won nine games as well.
In 2023, she had her best season with the Eagles leading them to their first 10-win season since 2013-14. Coincidentally, the 2013-14 season was Spragg's senior year at Belen High School where she led the team to a 12-9 record.
The resident also spent three seasons with the Albuquerque Rebels Volleyball Club where she was the head coach and assistant coach of two U-17 national teams and one U-18 national team. During that time, Coach Spragg assisted in leading two teams to the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship Tournament.
Spragg began her athletic career as middle blocker at the University of New Mexico (2014-19). During her time with the Lobos, Spragg was named to the 2016 UT Arlington Invitational All-Tournament Team as well as being named to the Cyclone Invitational All-Tournament Team in 2017.
Spragg was fortunate to be a member of the Mountain West All-Stars team that competed in Pula, Croatia for the 12th European Global Challenge during the summer of 2016. The team placed third out of 23 teams from nine countries.
The 2018 volleyball season was a year to remember for Spragg. She was named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, finished her career with the sixth-most blocks by an individual in a single season, tallied the sixth most block assists in a single season, and ended her career at UNM fourth all-time in assisted blocks with 342 for a total of 405 blocks.
Spragg graduated from UNM with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting in 2017. She later earned her master's in Accounting with a concentration in Information Assurance in 2019.
