
T-Birds (WXC) Earns 2nd Victory of the Season
The NMJC women's cross country team won their second meet of the season on Friday, Sept. 27 at the NMJC Invitational II 8k.
The T-Birds scored 32 points to defeat Texas Tech by 10 points and Angelo State by 37 points.
Freshman Amal Kachouri finished runner-up with a time of 18:56.70. Kachouri has been the top runner for NMJC in 4-of-5 meets this year. Ines Mrabet was the second runner across the line for NMJC placing third with a finish of 19:07.30. The time was 4.30 seconds better than what she ran in the NMJC Invitational.
Jayne Elvin came in fifth place recording a 19:19.10 5k Friday afternoon. Elvin improved by .80 seconds compared to last week.
Freshman Lisel Ndlovu earned her second top-10 finish of the season when she placed 10th with a time of 20:17.30. The time was 9.90 seconds quicker than her previous race on Sept. 20.
Tyfane Martins was the final member counting toward the team score as she placed 17th at the meet. Martins finished with a time of 20:51.00, which was 32.90 seconds better than what she accomplished at the NMJC Invitational.
Sophomore Jody Ann Mitchell recorded a 20th-place finish with a time of 21:12.20. Hadil Chiha was one spot behind in 21st place finishing in 21:12.30.
Francesca Alvarado had a tough day out there placing 28th with a time of 22:00.40. Emilly Silva and Daphne Kausz were out with injury.
The T-Birds race next at the NMJC Invitational III on Friday, Oct. 11 at 9 a.m. MDT in Hobbs, NM at Harry McAdams Park.
